Understand Your Insurance Coverage After An Accident
At The Gori Law Firm, we help accident victims and the families of those who have been involved in car, truck, motorcycle and other vehicle accidents. It is important for accident victims to understand how the insurance policies of other drivers, and their own policies, will cover their injuries and other damages.
Initial Tips
We often see these common errors in the immediate aftermath of a serious accident. If you’ve been injured, speak to an attorney first. Do not:
- Accept money from an insurance company without speaking to us first
- Negotiate with them without the advice of a lawyer
- Expect sympathy from insurers or a claim adjuster, regardless of what they say. Remember, it’s their job to pay as little as possible, and they’ll try to do their job well.
You need protection to ensure that your rights are upheld. If the insurance companies can get away with not paying you anything or with paying you only a fraction of the compensation you deserve, that is a big win for them. The fact that you stand to lose everything if this happens will not stop them.
In our years of practice, our attorneys have recovered billions of dollars in settlements and verdicts for clients who have been harmed through the negligence of others. Our former cases include a wide range of personal injury claims, including those associated with complex car and truck accident claims involving underinsured and uninsured motorist claims. We also represent families that have lost loved ones to fatal accidents in wrongful death lawsuits.

Scott’s Law – Made For Your Safety
In December 2000, an intoxicated driver struck and killed Lieutenant Scott Gillen as the Chicago firefighter performed his emergency duties on the side of the road. The state of Illinois passed “Scott’s Law” or the Move Over Law. This law originally stated that drivers must reduce speed, change lanes if possible and proceed with caution when approaching an emergency vehicle such as an ambulance or police car.
In 2017, the law was adjusted to include any vehicle pulled over with emergency lights flashing. Drivers in Illinois hit 15 State Police troopers or other vehicles after the officers parked along the road. That happened in just the first three months of 2019, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
We will work for your best interests and help you attain adequate compensation for your accident. Our personal injury cases are on a contingency basis. We collect no lawyer fees until you receive damages, and we are not afraid to take your case to court if necessary.
Do Not Suffer In Silence
A driver violating Scott’s Law could change your future forever. Injuries and vehicular damage can set you back professionally and personally. Our combined settlement amounts total in the billions of dollars. If a negligent driver struck you or a loved one, schedule your free consultation.
