Biography
Tonya Genovese was born and raised in Granite City, Illinois, graduating from Granite City High School. She then went to St. Louis University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in International Business. After graduating from SLU, she obtained her law degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California.
Ms. Genovese spent over 15 years as a prosecutor at the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office, where her focus and trial experience was based on the prosecution of elder abuse and financial exploitation. During her time at the State’s Attorney’s Office, Ms. Genovese helped create the Elder Abuse Division and educated local community organizations, such as Assisted Living Facilities, Nursing Homes, Financial Institutions and First Responders, on the prosecution of Home Repair Fraud and crimes against those over the age of 60. She is currently a member of the Fatality Review Team for the Elderly and the State of Illinois Elder Abuse Task Force.
Additionally, Ms. Genovese has served as General Counsel for several municipalities and governmental agencies for over 15 years. Ms. Genovese has handled a great range of issues for municipalities, from drafting ordinances and resolutions to condemnation actions and litigation. Ms. Genovese also worked for Lewis & Clark Community College where she advised the College on compliance with federal, state and local statutes.
Since joining the Gori Law Firm, Ms. Genovese has focused on special litigation projects, compliance, personal injury and worker’s compensation.
